Armstrong Maple

Acer × freemanii ‘Armstrong’ is a fast-growing, narrow columnar Freeman maple selected for its upright form and strong branch structure. A hybrid of red maple and silver maple, it combines adaptability and vigor with a much tighter, vertical habit, making it ideal where horizontal space is limited.

Leaves are medium green through summer and turn bright orange to red in fall, providing reliable seasonal color. The tree maintains a strong central leader and resists the weak branching typical of silver maple.

‘Armstrong’ thrives in full sun to partial shade and adapts well to a wide range of soils, including clay and periodically wet sites. It shows good tolerance to urban conditions, heat, and pollution. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–8.
