Quercus muehlenbergii
Chinkapin Oak
Chinkapin oak (Quercus muehlenbergii) has toothed leaves, pale gray bark, and a broad canopy. Its ability to grow in limestone-influenced, alkaline soils distinguishes it from many other familiar oaks.
Its structure combines an open canopy and a rounded outline. Growth is moderate. The leaves are shed for winter. Autumn foliage can bring brown and yellow tones.
Choose a sunny, open site. Provide well-drained soil.
