Ribes sanguineum King Edward VII
King Edward VII Ribe
King Edward VII Flowering Currant opens hanging clusters of rich red flowers along its branches early in the season. Lobed green leaves follow, filling out a compact shrub with upright growth and gently arching branch tips.
The berries change color as they mature and eventually become dark blue with a pale surface bloom. Autumn can bring amber, pink and golden shades to the leaves, extending interest beyond the spring flower display.
Plant in sun or partial shade where the flowers can be seen against a quiet background. Established plants tolerate dry periods, making this a useful flowering accent in a mixed border.
