Ravenna Grass

Ravenna Grass makes a large, upright clump with coarse leaves and tall stems carrying feathery flower plumes. The late-season plumes change from pinkish tones to silver and beige, then remain useful as winter structure.

Its scale suits an open landscape where a substantial grass can stand alone or form a screen. Cut stems can be used fresh or dried. Allow for vigorous growth and possible self-seeding; established clumps can be difficult to remove.

Choose full sun and well-drained soil of modest fertility. Excess moisture or rich soil can weaken the stems. Cut old growth back before spring growth begins, wearing gloves to protect against the sharp leaf edges.
