Black Lace Elderberry
Black Lace elderberry (Sambucus nigra ‘Eva’) has finely cut, purple-black foliage that creates an airy outline despite the shrub’s substantial size. Pink flower clusters in early summer stand out against the dark leaves.
A compatible elderberry nearby is needed for good berry production. The dark foliage is most reliable in cooler climates and can become greener in heat. Allow room for its broad, upright framework.
Grow in sun or partial shade, preferably in moist soil. Prune after flowering when needed; hard annual cutting changes the plant’s size and seasonal flowering performance.
