Butterfly Blue pincushion flower (Scabiosa columbaria ‘Butterfly Blue’) holds lavender-blue flower heads on slender stems above a low clump of divided green foliage. The airy stems give the planting a light, open appearance.
Flowering begins in late spring and can continue through summer when faded heads are removed. Its restrained size works well beside paths, in containers, and among other sun-loving border perennials.
Give it full sun and sharply drained soil. Good drainage is especially important during wet weather. Remove spent blooms regularly and water new plants until established.
