Japanese umbrella pine (Sciadopitys verticillata) has thick, glossy green needles arranged in conspicuous whorls. This slow-growing conifer develops a substantial, usually pyramidal framework and should be given space beyond its small nursery size.
Its structure combines broad growth and outward-spreading growth. Growth is slow. The foliage supplies a year-round framework.
Choose a site in full sun or partial shade. Provide acidic, well-drained soil and maintain even moisture.
