Spirea x 'Goldmound'
Goldmound Spirea
Goldmound Spirea (Spiraea japonica ‘Goldmound’) makes a dense, low mound with bright golden spring leaves that mature toward green-gold. Small pink flower clusters appear from late spring into summer.
Yellow, orange, or red autumn foliage adds another change of color. Its compact scale works well in a low hedge, a mixed border, or a large container, but seedlings and suckering growth may need controlling.
Provide moist, fertile soil with good drainage in sun or partial shade. Prune in late winter or early spring, and remove faded flower clusters to encourage another flush.
