Stewartia mondelpha
Mondelpha Stewartia
Tall stewartia (Stewartia monadelpha) combines white, cupped summer flowers with dark green leaves and richly colored bark. Yellow stamens brighten the center of each bloom, while the foliage turns deep red in autumn.
A young tree may be pyramidal, becoming more open and spreading with age. Thin sheets of bark peel from the smooth trunk, giving an established specimen interest after the leaves fall.
Grow in sun or partial shade with well-drained soil and regular water during establishment. Keep the root zone evenly moist and shelter it from intense afternoon heat.
