Syringa microphylla Superba
Superba Lilac
Superba Littleleaf Lilac (Syringa pubescens subsp. microphylla ‘Superba’) combines small, dark green leaves with loose clusters of rosy pink flowers. Each flower has a long tube, and the scented summer display sits lightly above the branching.
The shrub develops a spreading, bushy outline. Its small leaves provide a finer texture than many common lilacs, making it useful beside larger-leaved shrubs in a mixed border.
Give it fertile soil that drains well and is neutral to alkaline. A sunny position supports the strongest flowering; water while the roots establish and mulch without burying the stems.
