Syringa pekinensis China Snow
White Pekin Lilac
China Snow Tree Lilac (Syringa reticulata subsp. pekinensis ‘Morton’) offers more than a flowering-season display. Copper-colored bark peels along the stems, adding texture beneath the upright crown even when the leaves have fallen.
Large clusters of fragrant, creamy white flowers appear in late spring and early summer. Green, broadly oval to heart-shaped leaves follow the branching, creating a useful small-tree feature with an additional winter detail.
Give it fertile soil that drains well and is neutral to alkaline. A sunny position supports the strongest flowering; water while the roots establish and mulch without burying the stems.
