Syringa vulgaris 'Yankee Doodle'

Yankee Doodle Lilac

Yankee Doodle Lilac (Syringa vulgaris ‘Yankee Doodle’) produces long clusters of rich purple flowers above broad green leaves. The fragrant display arrives in late spring and early summer, giving the shrub a strong seasonal presence.

Its upright framework gradually broadens, so it works best with room around the lower branches. Use it as a flowering specimen or toward the back of a mixed border, where its height can rise above smaller plants.

Give it fertile soil that drains well and is neutral to alkaline. A sunny position supports the strongest flowering; water while the roots establish and mulch without burying the stems.
