Baldcypress (Taxodium distichum) is a deciduous conifer with soft, finely divided foliage. Green summer needles turn warm coppery tones before dropping, leaving a tapered trunk and branching outline visible through winter.
Its structure combines broad growth and outward-spreading growth. Growth is moderate. The leaves are shed for winter. Autumn foliage can bring copper and brown tones.
Choose a site in full sun or partial shade. Provide acidic, humus-rich, well-drained soil and maintain even moisture. It also tolerates wet ground and occasional flooding.
