Tilia tomentosa 'Sterling Silver'
Sterling Silver Linden
Sterling Silver Linden forms a broad pyramid of leafy branches, giving it a composed outline even in a large, open planting. The upper leaf surfaces are green, while fine hairs create a pale silver-gray color underneath.
As the leaves turn in moving air, the light undersides become visible throughout the crown. Yellow autumn foliage provides a final change before leaf drop. This vigorous selection has documented resistance to Japanese beetle feeding.
Give it a sunny position with enough space for a broad shade canopy. Silver linden tolerates heat and periods of drought once established, but the tree should be placed with its eventual size in mind rather than crowded near a building.
