Tsuga canadensis
Canadian Hemlock
Eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) has small needles and gently drooping branch tips that soften its conical outline. This evergreen thrives in cool, moist conditions and can form a large, layered landscape specimen.
Its structure combines arching stems and a tapered crown. Growth is fast. The foliage supplies a year-round framework.
Choose a partly to fully shaded site. Provide acidic, well-drained soil and maintain even moisture. Monitor for hemlock woolly adelgid where it occurs.
