Tsuga canadensis Coles Prostrate
Coles prostrate Weeping Hemlock
Cole’s Prostrate Canadian hemlock (Tsuga canadensis ‘Cole’s Prostrate’) spreads close to the ground on stiff branches that turn downward. Green foliage frames an irregular inner structure, where silvery bark adds subtle contrast.
It can drape around rocks or over a low wall. Staking changes its height and creates a different outline, while an unsupported plant remains a low, spreading feature.
Choose a cool, moist site with acidic, well-drained soil. Partial shade is helpful, especially where summers are warm. Water carefully during establishment and protect the root area from prolonged drying.
