Pinus thunbergii Koto buki
Kotobuki Black Pine
Kotobuki Japanese Black Pine (Pinus thunbergii ‘Kotobuki’) offers a full, upright framework in a dwarf selection. Emerald green needles clothe the close branching, giving the small tree a dense, substantial appearance.
Its compact proportions are useful in a smaller garden or a conifer collection. It is also used for bonsai, where the upright structure and concentrated foliage can be shaped on an even smaller scale.
Choose a sunny position with soil that drains freely. Water during establishment and leave enough room for the branches to develop without crowding.
