Acer griseum (Paperbark Maple) is one of the most prized ornamental maples, renowned for its exfoliating cinnamon-brown bark that peels in thin, papery curls and provides exceptional four-season interest, especially in winter.

The trifoliate leaves emerge blue-green in spring, mature to soft green in summer, and turn brilliant shades of scarlet, orange, and red in fall. The tree has a slow to moderate growth rate and develops an upright to rounded habit, often multi-stemmed, with a refined, elegant form.

Paperbark maple prefers full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. It benefits from protection from extreme heat and drying winds and performs best in cooler climates. Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8.
